Origin and history

The house in Saint-Aignan, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, is a historic monument whose portal could come from an ancient abbey. The right gable preserves the traces of a medieval chapel, identifiable by two ogival bays today walled. This building, integrated into a courtyard surrounded by other ancient buildings, illustrates the Renaissance civil and religious architecture in the region.

The gate, which has been protected since 1946, features a moulded frame with side pilasters. Its cladding lintel, surmounted by a larmal of the same style, rests on carved lamp-like asses. These architectural details suggest a religious origin, although the site has been redeveloped into habitat. The location at 24 rue de la Pêcherie confirms its anchoring in the historic urban fabric of Saint-Aignan.

Available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) indicate poor location accuracy (note 5/10), without providing additional information on the occupants or past uses of the site. The lack of data on owners or artisans limits the understanding of its social history, but its registration as Historic Monuments in 1946 underscores its heritage value.
