Façades and roofs on street and courtyard with their respective portal (Box MW 19): inscription by order of 26 February 1987

Origin and history

The house at 2-3 Place Genevières in Lille is a building representative of 18th century civil architecture. Classified as a Historic Monument, it is distinguished by its facades and roofs on street and courtyard, as well as by their respective portals. These elements, protected by a registration order of 26 February 1987, bear witness to the city's urban heritage at that time.

The building is located in the Nord department, in the Hauts-de-France region, and its exact address is listed in the Merimée base. Although the accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory a priori (note of 6/10), its exact location, between Place Genevières and GPS coordinates, reflects the urban evolution of Lille. No information is available about its current use (visit, rental, etc.) or its potential historic owners.

At the time of its construction, Lille was a city in full economic and cultural growth, marked by its gradual integration into the Kingdom of France (after the siege of 1708). The bourgeois houses, like this one, illustrated the social status of their occupants and participated in the beautification of public squares. Their architecture, often sober but elegant, responded to the aesthetic cannons of the Enlightenment century, mixing functionality and decoration.
