Origin and history

The Maison Favor, located at 218 Grand'Rue Jean-Jaurès in Bourg-de-Péage (Drôme), is an emblematic building of the 4th quarter of the 18th century. This monument is distinguished by protected architectural elements, including its staircase with its cage, as well as ground floor rooms decorated with period wallpapers, such as the dining room and living rooms. These characteristics led to its partial classification and its inscription under the Historical Monuments by order of 12 April 1972.

The facade and roof of the Favor House, as well as its interior decorations, reflect the architectural style and art of living of the Drômois bourgeoisie at the end of the Ancien Régime. This type of residence, often located in the city centre, reflected the social prestige of its owners and served as a framework for social receptions, illustrating the importance of cultural and economic exchanges in the region.

The legal protections granted in 1972 underline the heritage value of this building, both for its architecture and for its interior decorations, rare preserved examples of this period. The location of the Favor House, on a main road in Bourg-de-Péage, reinforces its anchoring in local urban history, between collective memory and preservation of the historic building.
