Origin and history
The Renaissance House of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne is an emblematic building of the city, built on the remains of the old ramparts belt. This building combines architectural elements from the 15th and 18th centuries, with a second floor in corbellation, characterized by wood panels and torchi. Its roof, covered with flat tiles, reflects the traditional construction techniques of the region.
Classified as a Historic Monument, this house reflects the urban evolution of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, where medieval constructions have often been remodelled in later times. The facade and roof were protected by a registration order in 1949, highlighting their heritage value. Located in Bridolle Square, it is integrated into a historical environment marked by the influence of the missing ramparts.
The location of the house, although documented (Insee 19019 code, Corrèze department), remains approximate according to available sources, with a location accuracy assessed as fair. This monument illustrates the adaptation of old structures to residential and urban needs throughout the centuries, typical of the small towns of Limousin.
