Origin and history

Thevenin House is a monument located in the medieval village of Peruges, in the department of Ain. This building, whose architecture reflects the traditional style of the region, was recognized for its heritage value by two successive classifications as historic monuments, in 1921 and then in 1941. These protections specifically concern its street façade, stressing its importance in the urban landscape of Peruges.

Peruges, the emblematic village of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, was historically a place of passage and commerce. Houses such as the Thevenin were used both as a dwelling and as a place for artisanal or commercial activities, reflecting the daily lives of the inhabitants. Their preservation makes it possible today to understand the social and economic organization of the medieval and post-medieval villages of this part of France.

Thevenin House is located precisely at 5188 rue des Rondes, according to the GPS coordinates available, although its official address in the Mérimée base is indicated as being on Rue du Prince. This dual reference illustrates the challenges sometimes encountered in the exact location of historical monuments, especially in villages with narrow and winding alleys like Perugia.
