Caves vaulted (Case AH 291): inscription by order of 19 January 2000
Origin and history
The house located 8 Place Jeanne-d'Arc in Neufchâteau is a building whose basements date from the late 15th or early 16th century. These cellars, classified as Monument Historique in 2000, present two vessels vaulted with cross-sections of prismatic warheads, falling back on caps and a central column with leafy capital. The arch keys are adorned with a prominent ring, and the absence of formets underscores the structural simplicity of the era.
The current superstructures date back to the 18th century, when the house was rebuilt on these medieval foundations. In the twentieth century, the anterior façade was remodelled, particularly on the first floor. The building thus illustrates a superposition of eras: a preserved Gothic basement, classical floors, and modern modifications.
The listing of Historic Monuments in 2000 only concerns vaulted cellars (park AH 291), highlighting their heritage value. The building, located in the city centre (place Jeanne-d'Arc), bears witness to the architectural evolution of Neufchâteau, between medieval heritage and subsequent transformations. No information is available on any specific owners or historical uses.
