Origin and history

The houses located Place Duroc in Pont-à-Mousson constitute an architectural complex whose facades have been recognized for their heritage value. Their inclusion in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 11 December 1925 bears witness to their importance in the urban landscape of this city of Meurthe-et-Moselle. Their precise location, at 31 and 33 of Place Duroc, as well as in the immediate vicinity (29 Place Duroc according to GPS coordinates), suggests a concentration of remarkable buildings in this central sector.

Pont-à-Mousson, integrated into the Grand Est region (formerly Lorraine), has had a history marked by its strategic and economic role, particularly around its industrial and commercial activities. Bourgeois or artisanal houses, like these, often reflected local prosperity and served as a living environment for wealthy families or corporations. Their preservation allows us today to evoke the way of life and the social organization of the city in the 19th and 20th centuries, periods that are crucial for the urbanization and modernization of the Lorrain cities.
