Origin and history

The Cabourg casino, built in the early 20th century, was the work of architects Viraut and E. Mauclerc in 1908, together with the adjacent Grand Hotel. This ensemble, created by the company Chouard de Rouen, embodies one of the most coherent and best preserved examples of the seaside architecture of the Belle Époque. It replaces several earlier buildings, including a first wooden casino erected in 1854, and a second in 1867, considered too small despite the addition of a ballroom in 1880 and its electrical modernization in 1891.

The current casino, purchased by the municipality in 1956, has been run since 1997 by the Partouche group. Between 2006 and 2007, he underwent expansion after the renewal of his concession for 15 years. Some parts, such as facades, roofs, the southeast rotunda and the showroom (with its original electrical installation), have been classified as Historic Monuments since 1993, highlighting their heritage value.

The hotel is distinguished by its panoramic restaurant, nicknamed "the Kaz", and its harmonious integration with the Grand Hotel de la Plage, built in 1862. Located on the Promenade Marcel Proust, it illustrates the golden age of Norman seaside resorts, mixing leisure, elegant architecture and social life. Its history also reflects technical and social developments, from the arrival of electricity to its contemporary private management.

Sources also mention its link with the Côte Fleurie, a region valued for its seaside heritage, and its role in local cultural animation. The facades and interior decorations, protected, bear witness to the fascist of the era, while its location at 9002 Promenade Marcel Proust makes it a central point of Cabourg, between sea and city.
