Origin and history

The Château de la Cour-Senlisse, located in Senlisse in the Yvelines, finds its origins in a hotel mentioned in 1399. The current building was mainly built between the end of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century, on the bases of an older structure partially designed by Chastillon. The remains include two 15th-century towers (one to the northeast) and moat, while the house was modified and enlarged in the 17th and 18th centuries. The facade on garden dates from the 18th century, and the site was classified in 1980 for its historical and architectural interest.

The facades, roofs, isolated towers and remnants of the moat were inscribed in the Historic Monuments by order of 30 June 1977. The castle also served as a cinematic decoration, appearing in Monsieur des Lourdines (1943) and Le Tatoué (1968). A body of lateral buildings, redone in the 17th century, and an entrance work destroyed after 1819 testify to the successive transformations of the estate.

The monument illustrates the evolution of fortified farms in seigneurial residences in Île-de-France, combining defensive functions (doves, towers) and residential functions. Its history reflects architectural adaptations to the needs of times, from the Middle Ages to modern changes. The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) highlight its heritage importance in the Yvelines, where it is one of the listed castles.
