Origin and history
Bouglainval's fief dates back to the 13th century, but the present castle developed mainly in the 17th and 18th centuries. At that time, the estate consists of a complete agricultural complex, including the castle, communes ( stables, pigeon house, domestic housing, forge, fruit trees) and a farm organized around a courtyard. These buildings reflect a structure typical of the large rural areas of the period, designed for self-sufficiency and farming.
In the second half of the 17th century and at the beginning of the 18th century, the castle underwent important works, accompanied by the creation of a park with French. The latter was later transformed into an English park in the 19th century, illustrating the evolution of landscape tastes. The central body of the castle, flanked by four turrets, rests on a network of cellars. Inside, painted and gilded leathers, as well as panels inspired by Watteau's engravings, testify to a refined decor.
The estate has been classified as Historic Monument since 2006, fully protecting the castle, the communes (excluding modern swimming pool), the courtyard floor, the park pavilion, the fence walls, the access gates, the vegetable garden with its greenhouses and orangery, as well as the landscaped park and its water room. These elements highlight the heritage importance of the site, both for its architecture and landscaping.
The official address of the castle, according to the Mérimée base, is the 2 rue de Valpinçon in Bouglainval (Eure-et-Loir), in the region Centre-Val de Loire. The Insee code of the municipality (28052) confirms its connection to the department of Eure-et-Loir, near Chartres. The GPS location corresponds precisely to this address, ensuring clear site identification.
