Origin and history

Cahuzac Castle, also known as Portos Castle, is a building built in the late 19th century. Located in the commune of Cahuzac, in the department of Tarn in Occitanie region, it embodies bourgeois residential architecture of this time. Its square plan, three floors and symmetrical facades reflect the aesthetic cannons of the period, mixing elegance and functionality.

The estate of the castle has been converted into charming cottages, offering a new tourist vocation to this heritage. Between 2014 and 2015, major renovations were undertaken: replacement of the slate roof, restoration of exterior carpentry and windows. These interventions were aimed at preserving the architectural integrity of the building while adapting to contemporary uses.

On the architectural plane, the castle is distinguished by its main facade in white coating, organized in five spans with a central projection in stone. The latter is surmounted by a semicircular pediment adorned with a coat of arms, characteristic of the aristocratic or bourgeois mansions of the 19th century. At the back, an elevated terrace accessible by a large staircase completes this symmetry, while a square tower flanks the right facade.

The castle of Cahuzac is included in the list of castles of the Tarn, testifying to the importance of the built heritage of this region. Although its detailed history and former owners are not mentioned in the available sources, its architecture and recent renovation make it a notable example of the preservation of local heritage.
