Origin and history

The Château de Cousance, located in the municipality of the same name in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is an emblematic building of the 2nd quarter of the 18th century. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, is distinguished by its architecture and its protected interior elements, reflecting the Louis XV style. Its facades, roofs, as well as some interior decorations such as the large staircase, living rooms and fireplaces, were preserved by a decree of inscription in 1992.

The castle consists of a house and a southern building of the communes, both remarkable for their architectural style. Inside, rooms such as the vestibule, the living room, or the chapel on the first floor preserve period decors, including Louis XV fireplaces and a painted portrait of Joseph François Damascus. These elements demonstrate the historic and artistic significance of the site, although information on its current use (visits, rentals, accommodation) is not specified in available sources.

The location of the castle, in Cousance in the Jura department, is attested by the data of the Merimée database and GPS coordinates, although the accuracy of this location is considered a priori satisfactory (note of 6/10). The monument is part of a territory marked by the history of Franche-Comté, a region where castles and seigneurial residences played a central role in the social and economic organization of the 17th and 18th centuries.
