Origin and history
The castle of Lassalle is a noble house of ancient origin, deeply transformed in the second half of the eighteenth century. The works concerned both the exterior facade and the interior decorations, indicating a desire for modernization in accordance with the tastes of the era. The ensemble is organized around a central courtyard, with the main house located to the south, reflecting a typical arrangement of the aristocratic houses of the region.
The dining room preserves a remarkable set of paintings on marouflage canvases, depicting pastoral and mythological scenes. These rare and well preserved decorations illustrate the influence of 18th century decorative arts in noble residences in southwestern France. The castle, partially protected since 2006, includes in its perimeter of protection the house and its outbuildings (cadastre AA 151).
Located in Bidos (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), the castle is representative of the noble houses remodeled under the Old Regime, when the local elites invested in the beautification of their residences. Its registration as a Historic Monument in 2006 highlights its heritage value, both architectural and artistic. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rentals, accommodation).
