Origin and history

Malherbes Castle is a 20 hectare wine estate located in Latresne, Gironde, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Founded at the end of the 14th century by Guilhem de Malherbes, a knight returning from the Crusades, it is attested as a noble house from the 16th century. Today, it is part of the AOC Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux, on the right bank of the Bordeaux vineyards.

The estate, which cultivates 12 hectares of vines, produces red and white wines from traditional Bordeaux grape varieties: merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon for reds, and sauvignon blanc and semillon for whites. Manual harvests and modern techniques, such as density sorting and breeding in new barrels, guarantee quality production.

In 2014, the castle was bought by the Russian businessman Mikhail Bereshchanskii, who invested in the modernization of the site. In 2021, a new "by gravity" cellar was built. The house, rebuilt in the 19th century in a style inspired by the 16th century, and the communes, partially dated from the 14th and 18th centuries, are part of a landscaped park.

The estate offers three wines: Château de Malherbes (red and white) and Malherbes (Grand Vin rouge). Its architecture thus combines medieval heritage and contemporary adaptations, while perpetuating a recognized Bordeaux wine tradition.
