Origin and history

The château du Martinet is a former seigneurial residence erected at the exit of Carpentras, on the road to Mazan, in the department of Vaucluse. In 1628, the Isnard family acquired the land of the Martinet to build an estate that later became a marquisate. This castle remains the residence of this family until the middle of the 20th century, marking centuries of local history.

During the French Revolution, the castle suffered a devastating fire. It was rebuilt in the early 19th century by Louis des Isnards, with works that ended in 1838 for the main body and in 1863 for the enclosure, the court of honour and the annexes. The stones used for the enclosure would come from the old walls of Carpentras, adding a heritage dimension to its reconstruction.

The château du Martinet has been listed as historic monuments since 31 May 1945. Its neo-classical architecture is distinguished by a main body of two levels (ground floor and one floor), with a south facade more imposing than the north facade. Exploited as guest rooms and table until 2013, it embodies both an aristocratic heritage and an adaptation to modern usages.
