Origin and history

Moulor Castle is a medieval building located on Monlaur hill in Loudervielle, in the Hautes-Pyrénées. Dating from the 13th century, it overlooks Lake Genos-Loud envieille and the Louron valley. Its structure includes a 9-metre high square watch tower, typical of the fortifications of the time.

The dungeon is attested as property of the lords of Montlaur, vassals of the barons of Spain-Montespan. These local lords played a key role in the Pyrenean feudal system, controlling the channels of communication and protecting the surrounding lands. The castle thus illustrates the political and military organization of the region in the Middle Ages.

Located in Occitanie, the castle is part of a landscape marked by Pyrenean castles, often linked to the monitoring of valleys and strategic axes. The Louron Valley, where it is located, was a territory of passage between France and Spain, reinforcing the defensive importance of this type of construction.
