Origin and history
The Château de Pont-du-Château, classified as a Historic Monument since 1921, was built in the 17th century by the Beaufort family. This monument illustrates the civil architecture of the period, with an urban facade structured by a central balustrade pavilion, framed with two symmetrical wings. Inside, it retains original decorative elements, such as exposed beamed ceilings, wall paintings, as well as a large Louis XVI style room decorated with panelling and a monumental fireplace.
The doric style double-revolution porch allows access to the first floor, highlighting the prestigious character of the building. The property, now belonging to the commune, has a coherent architectural complex, typical of the aristocratic residences of the region in the seventeenth century. Interior details, such as painted decorations and woodwork, bear witness to the refinement of the period and the influence of classical styles, especially during Louis XVI.
Although the sources do not specify its initial use, its configuration suggests a residential and representative vocation, reflecting the social status of the Beaufort family. The 1921 classification attests to its heritage value, while its location in the heart of Pont-du-Château (place de l'Hôtel de Ville) makes it a central part of the historic urban landscape.
