Origin and history

Salvert Castle is a historic monument located in the commune of Attignat, in the department of Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its origins date back to the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, although its architecture has undergone major changes over the centuries. The dungeon was razed during the French Revolution, and part of the castle was demolished before being redeveloped during the 19th century.

Today, the ground floor of the castle is maintained and used for meetings, receptions and exhibitions. Upstairs, the former chapel was transformed into a library, reflecting the adaptation of the building to contemporary uses. The name of the castle comes from its last owner, the Marquis Dutour of Salvert Bellenave, whose family marked the local history.

The castle illustrates the architectural and political upheavals of the region, from its medieval construction to its post-revolutionary changes. Its present state reflects both its historical heritage and its integration into the cultural and social life of Attignat.
