Origin and history
Sarlièves Castle, located in Cournon-d'Auvergne in Puy-de-Dôme, is one of the few castles of the late 17th century still standing around Clermont. Its sober architecture, marked by lava elements, reflects the style of the Limagna countryside houses of this period. It is the last vestige of a series of 17th century castles, many of which have been destroyed over time.
Inside, carpentry, decorations and fireplaces have disappeared, leaving only the main structure and vaulted stables, protected by a registration order under the Historic Monuments since 5 March 1992. The castle thus illustrates the evolution of seigneurial residences in Auvergne, while at the same time testifying to the architectural changes and heritage losses suffered by these buildings.
The location of the castle, although known (9 Rue de Sarliève), is considered to be of poor accuracy (note of 5/10), perhaps reflecting uncertainties about its exact grip or current condition. No information is available on its accessibility to the public, its contemporary uses (visits, events) or possible historical owners.
