Facades and roofs (Case AO 4): inscription by order of 5 June 1972

Origin and history

Beaulon Castle is a 19th-century building located in the commune of Beaulon, in the department of Allier, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is representative of the architecture of the Restoration period, combining an architectural plan inspired by the Renaissance with facades of Louis XVI style. Its central house body is flanked by two symmetrical wings, forming a quadrilateral at angles marked by cylindrical towers topped by peppers.

Inside, the castle preserves woodwork from the early 19th century, especially in the living room and dining room. These decorative elements bear witness to the refinement of the period and the influence of neoclassical styles. The monument was partially listed as a historical monument on June 5, 1972, a recognition that protected its facades and roofs.

Beaulon Castle illustrates the architectural taste of the bourgeoisie and the early 19th century aristocracy, a period marked by a return to classical forms after revolutionary upheavals. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments underlines its heritage importance and its role in the local history of Allier and Bourbonnais.
