Origin and history
The castle of Drulingen is a master house built in 1816, upon the return of Napoleonic wars, for Jean Schmidt (1775-1844), captain of the 6th Hussard regiment. This building, located at 39 rue du Général-Leclerc in Drulingen, reflects the bourgeois architecture of the post-revolutionary era, with its outbuildings and dovecote dated 1818.
The building, which has been listed as a historic monument since July 16, 1987, includes a house, outbuildings and a dovecote covered with an imperial roof. The barn door, in basket handle, and the five-span facades illustrate the sober and functional style of Alsatian rural residences of the early 19th century.
The castle is associated with the local history of Drulingen, in the Lower Rhine, and bears witness to the lives of Napoleonic officers after the military campaigns. Its inscription protects facades, roofs, walls and fences, highlighting its heritage importance in the Grand Est region.
