Origin and history
The castle of Favars, located in the municipality of the same name in Corrèze (Nouvelle-Aquitaine), is a monument whose remains date back to the twelfth and fourteenth centuries. It is mainly a watchtower and defense tower, the only vestige of a larger complex formerly dependent on the Turenne Viscount. This round tower, with a restored tower of stairs and mâchicoulis, illustrates the medieval military architecture of the region.
The tower retains notable architectural elements, such as two interior halls vaulted in cloister arches and a cul-de-lampe staircase leading to the terrace. Classified as a Historical Monument by order of 22 August 1949, it bears witness to the strategic role of castles in local defence and feudal management. Its present state, although partially restored, allows to imagine its past importance within the Viscounty of Turenne.
The available data indicate an approximate location at 3 Rue de la Fontaine, with geographical accuracy considered to be satisfactory. No information is provided on its current accessibility (visits, accommodation or services). The sources mention only its inscription under the title of Historical Monuments, without details on its contemporary use.
