Origin and history

The Prada Castle, located in Labastide-d'Armagnac in the Landes, was built around 1764 by Victor Louis, the future architect of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux. Commanded by the son of Jean de Bouglon, king's attorney and governor of Eauze, the castle embodies a desire for prestige and practicality, reflecting the social ascent of this bourgeois family.

The estate became the cradle of a military line marked by figures such as Odette de Bouglon, who was hired as a driver of ambulances during the First World War, and Jean de Bouglon, who died in 1940 on the Maginot line. These destinies illustrate both the aristocratic and patriotic heritage of the castle.

Partially listed as historical monuments in 1984, the Prada Castle retains remarkable elements: facades, roofs, stone fireplaces, an interior staircase and an entrance gate. These protections underline its architectural importance and its anchor in the local history of the Landes.
