Origin and history

Ronno Castle is a historic monument located in the commune of Ronno, in the Rhône department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built during the 2nd quarter of the 18th century, it embodies architecture and construction techniques of this period. Although little detailed information is available on its history, it is known for its protected elements, including its wrought iron gates, dog oven and tile oven, listed in the Inventory of Historic Monuments since 1974.

At the time of its construction, the 18th century marked a period of transition between the Old Regime and the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution. In the Lyonnais and Beaujolais countryside, of which Ronno is a member, castles and large houses often play a central role in the local social and economic organization. They serve as residences for rural elites, while sheltering artisanal or agricultural activities, as evidenced by the ovens still visible today.

These buildings also reflect the growing importance of the iron and ceramic trades in the region, linked to the natural resources available.
