Origin and history
The castle of Bézéril is an emblematic 18th century building, located in the municipality of the same name, in the Gers department in Occitanie region. Originally built in the seventeenth century, it was completely redesigned in the next century, giving it its current architectural style. The castle is surrounded by a large park and a courtyard framed by long wings of commons, typical of the aristocratic residences of the time. Its square towers, covered with flat crochet tiles, add to its distinctive character.
The castle has been classified as historical monuments since 6 October 1977, a recognition that also extends to its facades, roofs and commons. Nearby, the Church of Saint James, dated 1757 with its bell tower and three bells, shares this heritage protection. These elements illustrate the historic and architectural significance of the site, marked by major changes in the 18th century.
The estate is characterized by a double ramp staircase leading to the park, as well as by prolonged communes to the west. Legal protections cover both the main structures as well as architectural details, such as tower tiles. These features are a representative example of the remodeled castles of the region, reflecting the stylistic and social changes of their time.
