Origin and history

The Teutsch Castle, also known as Hochberg Castle, was built in 1863 by Edward Teutsch, owner of the Hochberg Glassworks. Located in Wingen-sur-Moder in Lower Rhine, it embodies 19th-century industrial architecture, linked to the rise of local glassworks. The building, surrounded by a 1.7 hectare garden, is located in the heart of the Vosges du Nord Regional Natural Park, opposite the Lalique Museum.

Ranked a historic monument in 1996, the castle illustrates the Alsatian industrial heritage. It has been converted into a hotel-restaurant, preserving its heritage while adapting to a tourist vocation. Its current address, 2 rue du Château-Teutsch, reflects its anchoring in the local landscape.

The building of the castle coincides with the golden age of glassworks in Alsace, when industrialists like Edward Teutsch marked the regional economy. Its inscription in historical monuments underscores its architectural importance and its link to the industrial history of Bas-Rhin.
