Origin and history

The castle of Montaure, located in the department of Eure in Normandy, is a residence of the early eighteenth century, built at the site of an old lordial castle of the eleventh century. Although its current construction reflects the Louis XV style, its origins date back to Odon Stigand, the senechal of the Duke of Normandy Richard II, who erected the first building. The site now combines an elegant architectural heritage with a cultural vocation, with regular events such as the decorated Egg Festival or Christmas crèches.

The Cider Museum, housed in a 16th century press, traces the traditional manufacturing stages of this emblematic beverage of the region. This press, including a stacking tower, has been classified as a Historical Monument since 14 December 1990, excluding the reported press. The estate, open to visit under conditions, also offers green spaces and outbuildings dedicated to cultural activities.

The castle and its park are part of a broader historical setting, marked by the transition between the Old Regime and the architectural transformations of the 18th century. The presence of a cultural centre in the outbuildings underscores the desire to preserve and enhance this heritage, while at the same time anchoring it in contemporary local life. GPS coordinates and the official address (145 Rue de l'Abbé Toussaint, Terres de Bord) confirm its territorial anchorage in the commune of Montaure, code Insee 27412.
