Origin and history
The castle of Fertans, located in the eponymous village of Doubs, finds its origins in the 13th century with a first construction destroyed in 1638 during the Thirty Years War. Today, only the remains of the eastern part bear witness to this medieval era. The present building, rebuilt in the eighteenth century, is the work of architect Jean-Charles Colombot, commissioned by the Count of Fleury-Villayer.
The castle is distinguished by its entrance gate flanked by two towers, as well as its classified facades and roofs. Inside, the dining room and the large living room on the ground floor, with their original décor, have been protected as historical monuments since 1979. Five chimneys, divided between the ground floor and the floor, complete this remarkable architectural ensemble.
The castle of Fertans, which is part of the historical monuments, illustrates the evolution of styles between the Middle Ages and the Enlightenment. Its official inscription, dated 11 July 1979, covers both exterior elements (doors, roofs) and emblematic interior spaces, reflecting the fascist of the modern era in Franche-Comté.
