Origin and history

The castle of Aramon, classified as a Historic Monument, is distinguished by its medieval Saint-Martin chapel, which was profoundly renovated in the 19th century. This site, located in the Gard (Occitanie), illustrates the architectural evolution between two epochs, with protected facades and roofs, as well as a park and ramparts listed in the inventory since 1995. The most remarkable elements include the western wing known as the "eighteenth century wing", the vestibule, and a 19th century staircase, reflecting the successive transformations of the building.

The castle was built mainly in the 18th and 19th centuries, under the direction of architects such as Pierre Bondon and Jules de La Morandière. The estate also includes a bridge, terraces with retaining walls, and a chapel built into the park, demonstrating its heritage importance. Today owned by a private company, the castle preserves traces of its medieval past while displaying the characteristics of modern restorations, as evidenced by the legal protections on its structures and landscape environment.

The official address of the monument, 10 Bis Rue des Cardinals in Aramon (30390), corresponds to the Insee code 30012 of the Gard. Localization, assessed as "a priori satisfactory" (note 7/10), allows to understand its anchoring in the Languedoc landscape. The available sources, including Monumentum and Mérimée data, underline its status as a hybrid building, mixing religious heritage and aristocratic residence, typical of architectural transformations in Occitanie in the 18th and 19th centuries.
