Origin and history

The Villé Catholic Presbytery is a historical monument located in the municipality of Villé, in the department of Bas-Rhin, in the Grand Est region. This building, rectangular and backed by a medieval fortification, is distinguished by its massive structure, comprising a basement floor, a ground floor, a floor and an attic under an imposing four-sided roof. Its present appearance is mainly marked by the transformations of the eighteenth century, especially the bays in segmental arches visible on the south and east facades.

The construction of the presbytery spans two main periods: the 16th and 18th centuries. Although its general appearance more reflects the characteristics of the eighteenth century, some interior elements, such as the mantle of a fireplace and traces of the original building module, still bear witness to its older, dating origin of the sixteenth century. This presbytery, which has been listed as historic monuments since 2014, also includes protected exterior elements such as gardens, a cave in Lourdes, as well as remains of walls and terraces.

The rectory is located at 15 rue du Général-Leclerc in Villé. It is the property of the municipality and is subject to full protection, covering both the building, its original parcel and its landscaped surroundings. Its designation as historical monuments, by order of 3 January 2014, underlines its heritage and architectural importance in the Alsatian region.
