Prehistoric Cemetery of Prat-ar-Hastel, in the palud of Tréguennec (cad. A 1397): by order of 12 October 1937
Origin and history
The Prehistoric Cemetery of Prat-ar-Hastel, in Tréguennec, is a tumulus located on a high point overlooking the bay. This archaeological site, surrounded by sand probably carried by an earthquake, has delivered intriguing remains. Some skulls discovered at the beginning of the twentieth century had morphological characteristics distinct from those of current humans, while cut flints were also discovered.
The Prehistoric Cemetery of Prat-ar-Hastel, classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 12 October 1937, now belongs to the municipality of Tréguennec. Its location, in the Tréguennec palud, makes it an emblematic site of the Breton Prehistory. The excavations and observations carried out in the early twentieth century revealed funeral and lithic elements, providing an overview of the practices and tools of ancient populations.
The location of the tumulus at approximately 12 Prad Ar C'Hastell is considered satisfactory, although GPS coordinates do not allow perfect accuracy. The site, although protected, does not have detailed information about its current accessibility or how to visit it. It remains a valuable testimony of prehistoric human occupations in Brittany.
