Chalet Güttinger is an emblematic building of architectural romanticism, built in 1830 in the commune of Saint-Gatien-des-Bois, in the Calvados department in Normandy. This Swiss-inspired wooden chalet is distinguished by its integration into a wooded natural setting, offering sea views. It embodies the romantic ideal of returning to nature and rustic simplicity, while welcoming an intense intellectual life.

The chalet architect, Ulrich Güttinger (or Ulric Guttinguer), was a major figure in the romantic school and an influential member of the Arsenal Salon, a Parisian literary circle. The chalet became a meeting place for famous writers of the time, such as George Sand, Alfred de Musset and Sainte-Beuve, attracted by its picturesque atmosphere and isolated surroundings. These gatherings made it a cultural and artistic home in the heart of Normandy.

Its architecture, typical of the 19th century romantic buildings, reflects a desire for harmony with the surrounding landscape.
