Origin and history
The Chamber of Commerce of Orléans, located on Martroi Square, was built in the 3rd quarter of the 19th century (circa 1864). This iconic building has been home to institutions dedicated to local economic development since its creation. Its façade and roof, representative of the civil architecture of the Second Empire, were listed in the inventory of the Historic Monuments on 13 August 1937, highlighting their heritage value.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Loiret, the heir of the institution founded in 1803, established its seat there. It defends the interests of 16,000 local enterprises, divided between trade (41%), industry (38%) and services (21%). The building, a public property, also symbolises the central role of Orleans in the regional economy, notably through the management of equipment such as the airport or the river port of Briare.
The monument is linked to Alexis Germon, president of the Chamber of Commerce from 1867, a key period for its anchoring in Orlean economic life. Today, it remains an active place, combining historical heritage and contemporary business support missions, under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy.
In addition to its institutional role, the building illustrates the urbanization of Orleans in the 19th century, where the Martroi square, the historic heart, concentrated economic and political powers. Its ranking also reflects the importance attached to the preservation of buildings linked to industry and commerce, the driving sectors of the Centre-Val de Loire region.
The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) confirm its status as a protected monument, while stressing its continued use as a focal point for ICC activities. Its exact address, 23 Place du Martroi, and its Insee code (45234) definitively anchor its identity in the Orléan heritage.
