Chapelle Notre-Dame de Restudo, including murals (Box ZN 72): by order of 2 November 1954

Origin and history

The chapel Notre-Dame de Restudo, located in Saint-Péver in Brittany, dates mainly from the 14th century, with major changes in the 15th century. Originally conceived as a Latin cross, it lost its northern wing over time, while its southern wing, separated from the nave by two arcades resting on capital columns, still bears witness to its original structure. This monument, classified as Historical Monuments since 1954, preserves notable architectural elements such as a 14th century window in the bedside, as well as wall paintings of the late 14th century adorning the triumphal arch.

The transformations undergone by the chapel in the 15th century illustrate the stylistic and functional evolutions of religious buildings in Brittany at this time. The murals, rare examples of medieval art preserved in situ, offer an overview of the artistic and devotional practices of the time. Although the precise location of the site is considered mediocre (level 5/10), its classification in 1954 underscores its heritage importance, particularly for its interior decorations and its architectural history.

Today, the chapel belongs to the commune of Saint-Péver, in the department of Côtes-d Its present state, partially altered by the disappearance of the north wing, does not detract from its historical value. Available sources, such as the Merimée and Monumentum base, confirm its status as a protected monument, including both the structure and its murals, under the Cadastral reference ZN 72. No information is provided on its current accessibility or contemporary uses (visits, rentals, etc.).
