Origin and history
The chapel of Saint Joseph, located at Beaucaire in the Gard, was built in 1654. This historic monument belonged to the Claussomette family. Its architecture is distinguished by a square structure, pierced only by a front door. The dogive crossovers are based on four lamp-ends, and the cover is composed of stone slabs. Originally, the façade seems to have been opened to the support height, according to the visible traces of the apparatus.
The engraved dates of 1811 and 1840 probably correspond to restoration campaigns. The ensemble is completed by a cross placed in front and terminals delimiting the adjacent paths. The chapel is partially protected, with an inscription of its northern facade in the inventory of Historical Monuments since 4 November 1946. Its approximate address, 259 Chemin du Mas des Milords, reflects its location in a rural or peri-urban setting.
The building illustrates the modest 17th century religious architecture in Languedoc, where private or family chapels played a spiritual and social role for local communities. Its conservation is evidence of attachment to regional religious heritage, despite subsequent transformations. The accuracy of its location remains poor (level 5/10), which may complicate its exact identification on the ground.
