Chapelle de Corlay : inscription by order of 4 July 1942

Origin and history

The chapel Saint-Antoine-et-Sainte-Françoise de Corlay is a religious building located in the commune of Nanton, Saône-et-Loire. Built in the 18th century, it embodies the Christian architectural heritage of Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments, effective since 4 July 1942, bears witness to its heritage value recognized by the French State.

The chapel is located precisely at 5271 Corlay, 71240 Nanton, in the department of Saône-et-Loire. Owned by the municipality, it is referenced in the Merimée database under the code Insee 71328. Although its state of conservation and conditions of visit are not detailed in the sources, its status as a protected monument makes it a key element of the local heritage.

In the 18th century, Burgundy was marked by a rural and agricultural society, where religious buildings such as the Corlay Chapel played a central role in community life. These places served not only as a framework for spiritual practices, but also as gathering points for the inhabitants. Their architecture often reflected the artistic influences and resources available in the region at that time.
