Origin and history
The chapel of the Epinat, located in Val-Fouzon in Indre (region Centre-Val de Loire), is a medieval vestige dating from the 12th century. This monument, now partially transformed into a barn, once belonged to a Benedictine priory. Despite this reconversion, its exterior architecture remains well preserved, with a rectangular choir not arched, a cul-de-four apse and a simple nave, characteristic of Romanesque art of the period.
The north wall of the chapel bears an inscription mentioning the name of its builder and the date of its realization, although these precise details are not reproduced in the available sources. The building was classified as Historic Monument by order of 12 June 1926, thus protecting its architectural heritage.
