Edme Régnier - Lord of Romprey and Lieutenant General Commander of the chapel in 1500.

Origin and history

The Chapel Saint-Renobert is a Catholic religious building located in the hamlet of Romprey, at the east end of the commune of Bure-les-Templiers in Côte-d-Or. Built in 1500, it faces the castle of Romprey, on the other side of the rue de la Soif. Small in size, it is distinguished by its bell tower, its flat bedside nave pierced by a single window, and its vaulted wooden ceiling. Its liturgical furniture, including the altar and the tabernacle, is classified in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage.

The chapel was erected simultaneously at the nearby castle in 1500 by Edme Regnier, lord of Romprey and lieutenant general of the Bailiwick of the Mountain. The latter is also the source of the visible burial in the church of Saint-Vorles de Châtillon-sur-Seine. The building was listed as a Historic Monument in 1996 for its interior decoration, including its murals discovered and restored in 1933.

The inscription under the title of the Historical Monuments, effective by order of 4 October 1996, relates specifically to the chapel (Cadastre D 633). Its state of conservation and its furniture make it an architectural and artistic testimony of the Renaissance in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. The exact location, according to the Merimée base, is the 5078 Rue du Lavoir in Bure-les-Templiers, although geographical accuracy is considered poor (level 5/10).
