Origin and history
The Notre-Dame-de-Pitié Chapel is a religious granite building located in Boqueho, in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany. Built in the 16th century, it is distinguished by its typical architecture of the period, with a main nave and a seigneurial chapel dating from 1486, integrated to the north. The ground floor of the bell tower, surmounted by an arrow, serves as a porch, while the side facades retain flamboyant decorative elements, such as windows with stone networks, a rose and two arched and pinnacle gates.
The chapel houses a listed historical monument, including a gissant of a Lord of Liscoët (circa 1400), a Pietà of the 15th century, an Annunciation of the 17th century and a statue of Saint Yves of the 17th century. These works illustrate the artistic and religious evolution of the region over centuries. The building itself, with its architectural details, reflects the importance of seigneurial chapels in the Breton landscape of the time.
Listed as a historic monument on May 18, 1946, the Notre-Dame-de-Pitié chapel bears witness to the religious and artistic heritage of Brittany. Its state of conservation and its decorative elements make it a notable example of 16th century religious architecture. Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum references, highlight its role in local history and heritage interest.
The precise location of the chapel is indicated as being at 5288 Kernabat de Pitié, in Boqueho, with geographical accuracy deemed satisfactory. Its address is referenced in the Mérimée base, confirming its anchoring in the Côtes-d'Armor territory. The chapel, open to the visit, continues to play a role in the development of the Breton heritage.
The lateral facades of the chapel, with their flamboyant windows and adorned portals, are characteristic of the late Gothic style. These elements, combined with the seigneurial chapel of 1486, suggest a construction in several phases, reflecting architectural developments and local influences. The steeple arrow, visible from a distance, also marks the Boqueho landscape.
Finally, the chapel is mentioned in works such as Le Patrimoine des Communes des Côtes-d Links to databases such as Mérimée and the Observatory of Religious Heritage reinforce its recognition as an emblematic monument of the region.
