Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Walcour : inscription by order of 10 April 1948
Origin and history
The Notre-Dame-de-Walcourt Chapel is a religious building located in Sémeries, in the Nord department, in the Hauts-de-France region. This monument, inscribed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by decree of 10 April 1948, bears witness to a local architectural and spiritual heritage. Its exact location, at 29 Rue de Ramousies, is documented in the Merimée base, although the accuracy of its location is considered mediocre (note 5/10).
Chapels of this type, often linked to Marian worship or local pilgrimages, played a central role in the community life of villages in northern France. In this region marked by rural and industrial history, these places of worship served as spiritual and social landmarks, bringing together the inhabitants around religious practices and popular traditions. Their preservation, like that of Notre-Dame-de-Walcourt, reflects communities' attachment to their cultural and religious heritage.
