Chapelle Saint-Andéol (Box A 47): Order of 4 December 1967
Origin and history
The Saint-Andéol Chapel is a Romanesque monument located in the commune of La Bâtie-Rolland, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in the 12th and 13th centuries, it embodies the medieval religious architecture typical of the Drôme. Its location within the communal cemetery highlights its historical role in the spiritual and funeral life of the local population.
Classified as a historical monument since 4 December 1967, this chapel bears witness to the importance of religious heritage in the region. Its precise location, 2 km northwest of the city center on the departmental road D625, makes it an accessible point of interest. Available sources, such as the Merimée base and Wikipedia, confirm its status as communal property and its integration into the Drômois historical landscape.
The building, although little documented in its architectural details, fits into the wider context of medieval rural chapels. These buildings often served as a place of worship for local communities, while playing a social and symbolic role. Their preservation, like that of Saint-Andeol, allows today to study the religious practices and construction techniques of the period.
