Bauzon tower and chapel Saint-Blaise (set) (cad. G 174, 175): by order of 10 November 1964
Origin and history
The chapel of Saint-Blaise, also known as the chapel of Bauzon, is a Romanesque building located near the hamlet of Saint-Blaise, on a hill overlooking the region. Built in the 12th century, it rises on an ancient site of worship, testifying to an ancient religious occupation. Its fortified architecture, rare in the region, includes the remains of a partially disappeared enclosure, as well as an atypical entrance that still remains.
Classified as historical monuments since November 10, 1964, this chapel is part of a protected complex including the Bauzon Tower. Today it belongs to the municipality of Bollène and is distinguished by its historical role and its strategic location, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. The traces of its closed walls recall its defensive past, characteristic of the religious constructions of that time.
The site is referenced in the Mérimée base under the code INSEE 84019, confirming its anchoring in the department of Vaucluse and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Although its present state no longer makes it possible to visualize all its fortifications, the chapel remains a remarkable example of Provençal Romanesque heritage, mixing religious and defensive functions.
