Origin and history

The chapel Saint-Grat is a Catholic building located in the commune of Lucéram, in the department of Alpes-Maritimes (region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur). Built in the fourth quarter of the 15th century, it illustrates the late medieval religious architecture of the Nice region, marked by local influences and characteristic painted decorations.

Classified as historical monuments on February 27, 1928, this chapel bears witness to the importance of religious heritage in the maritime alpine valleys. Its classification reflects its artistic and historical value, especially linked to the primitive Nice painters, whose works often adorn this type of rural chapels. Bibliographical references, such as Paul Roque's work, highlight his role in the study of retables and murals on the salt road.

Today the chapel belongs to the commune of Lucéram. Its location, on the road to Lucéram (5792 Route de Lucéram), makes it a point of interest for local history and cultural tourism. Available sources, including the Ministry of Culture and Regional Studies, confirm its status as a protected monument and its anchoring in the Azurean heritage landscape.
