Origin and history
The chapel Saint-Hubert de Berniprey is a religious building built in the 1st quarter of the 18th century, specifically in 1715, by Valentin and Anne Marchal. It is distinguished by its isolated location, at the edge of a forest path on a rocky plateau, away from the village of Ban-sur-Meurthe-Clefcy. Dominating the Meurthe Valley, this place of worship offers a picturesque setting and a remarkable view of the surrounding landscapes.
The blessing of the chapel was celebrated on 26 June 1715 by Perrotey, an official of Saint-Dié, thus marking his entry into religious office. This monument, of communal property, was inscribed in historical monuments by order of 5 April 1993, recognizing its heritage value. Its architecture and history reflect the local religious and artisanal traditions of the modern era.
Located in the Vosges department, in the Grand Est region, the chapel Saint-Hubert is part of a territory marked by a strong cultural and religious identity. Isolated chapels, such as Berniprey's, often played a central role in the spiritual life of rural communities, serving as a place of pilgrimage or gathering for specific ceremonies, such as the blessings of hunters, Saint-Hubert being the patron saint of hunters.
