Origin and history

Saint Joseph Chapel is a religious building located in Mauléon, Deux-Sèvres department (79), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is also known as the Largeau Chapel, with reference to its precise location in the commune. This monument, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 25 October 2018, is protected in its entirety, including cadastral plot n°15.

In the Poitou-Charentes region, chapels like St Joseph's often played a central role in community life, serving as places of worship, assembly and sometimes refuge. Their construction generally reflected local religious practices and typical architecture of the time. Mauléon, like many rural communities, has seen its religious heritage shaped by centuries of Christian traditions and social evolutions.
