Church of Etables and cemetery surrounding it: inscription by decree of 9 September 1943
Origin and history
Saint-Laurent d'Étables Chapel is a religious building located in Ceignes, in the department of Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, it bears witness to the medieval Christian architecture of this period. The church, surrounded by its cemetery, was listed as historical monuments by order of 9 September 1943, thereby recognizing its heritage value.
The chapel is now disused, meaning that it is no longer used for worship. It belongs to the municipality of Ceignes, as confirmed by the data of the Merimée database. Its state of conservation and its precise location (231 Rue de la Chapelle) are documented, with geographical accuracy considered satisfactory. Although disused, it remains an important vestige of local religious heritage.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its inscription as a historical monument, but do not provide details on its current use (visits, rentals, etc.). Its immediate environment, including the cemetery surrounding it, has also been protected since 1943, reinforcing its historical and architectural interest.
