Origin and history
The chapel Saint-Martin-de-Riberis, located in Montfaucon in the Gard (Occitanian region), is a religious building dating from the 10th century. This monument, whose location is estimated to be "passable" (note 5/10), is located precisely at Saint-Martin-de-Riberis, on Parcel A3. Its official address, according to the Mérimée base, is the 85 Chemin de la Tuilerie, in the commune of Montfalcon (code Insee 30178).
The chapel was fully protected, including its soil and basement, by an order of inscription for the Historical Monuments on 27 September 2021. Owned by the municipality, it illustrates the medieval heritage of the region, although available sources (Monumentum, internal data) do not specify its current use (visit, rental, etc.). Its architectural history remains focused on its construction period in the 10th century, without mention of subsequent transformations or significant events.
The regional context of the tenth century in Languedoc-Roussillon (now Occitanie) was marked by an emerging feudal organization and active Christianization. Rural chapels like Saint-Martin-de-Riberis often played a central role in the spiritual and community life of the villages. Their architecture, sober and functional, reflected the local resources and liturgical needs of the time.
