Chapelle Saint-Martin de Villenglose (cad. A 544) : classification by decree of 17 September 1964
Origin and history
The chapel Saint-Martin de Villenglose is a religious building located in the commune of Saint-Denis-d'Anjou, in the Pays de la Loire region. Built mainly in the 16th and 18th centuries, it embodies a local architectural and historical heritage. Its classification as Historic Monument by decree of 17 September 1964 bears witness to its heritage value, and it is now owned by the commune.
Chapels of this type often played a central role in the life of the 16th and 18th century rural communities. In Anjou, as in other regions, they served as places of worship, assembly and sometimes refuge. Their architecture reflected the techniques and styles of their time, while adapting to the spiritual and social needs of the inhabitants.
According to available data, the Saint-Martin chapel of Villenglose is located at the approximate address of 5480 Saint-Martin Villenglose, in the commune of Saint-Denis-d'Anjou. Although its GPS location is considered to be of poor accuracy (note of 5/10), it remains identifiable thanks to the cadastral references and archives of the Merimée base.
Sources also indicate that the chapel could be opened for the visit, although this information is not confirmed. No indication is given of any contemporary uses such as room rental or accommodation, but its status as communal property suggests local management of its maintenance and access.
