Chapelle Saint-Nicolas-du-Valhermeil (vestiges): inscription by order of 27 January 1948

Origin and history

The chapel Saint-Nicolas-du-Valhermeil, located in Auvers-sur-Oise in Val-d'Oise, is an architectural vestige dating from the first half of the 13th century. This monument, now partially preserved, illustrates the medieval religious heritage of the Île-de-France region. Its inscription as a Historical Monument by decree of 27 January 1948 underlines its heritage importance, although its present state allows only an approximate location, assessed as "passable" according to the criteria of geolocalized accuracy.

At the time of its construction, at the beginning of the thirteenth century, chapels such as that of Saint-Nicolas-du-Valhermeil played a central role in the life of rural or semi-urban communities. They served not only as places of worship, but also as social and spiritual landmarks for the inhabitants. In the context of the medieval Île-de-France, marked by flourishing agriculture and growing trade, these buildings often reflected local devotion and the resources available for their establishment.

Their partial preservation today offers an overview of the construction techniques and religious organization of the time.
