Origin and history
The Saint-Pierre de Pontloup Chapel, also known as Priory Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens, is a desacralized religious building located in the municipality of Moret-Loing-et-Orvanne, Île-de-France. Originally a priory founded in the 12th century, it stands on the right bank of the Loing, on Sisley Painter Street, east of the former municipality of Moret-sur-Loing. The building, a communal property, was classified as a historical monument by order of October 10, 1914, before being re-registered in 1926. Today, it hosts cultural exhibitions.
The site is marked by a double heritage protection: a classification in 1914 covering the chapel itself, followed by an inscription in 1926 for the whole priory. Its architecture and history reflect its past role as a place of worship and monastic life. In the 21st century, after its desecration, the building was converted into a space dedicated to artistic events, while maintaining its status as public property.
Located at 8 rue du Peintre Sisley in the Seine-et-Marne department (Ile-de-France region), the chapel is part of a landscape marked by the confluence of the Loing and its tributaries. Its location, close to the ancient medieval city of Moret-sur-Loeng, highlights its historic anchoring in a territory where religious buildings played a central role in community life. Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) confirm its heritage importance, although details about its founders or its precise architectural evolution remain partial.
